THE REGION OF FLORINA
The Prefecture of Florina is located in the northwest of Greece and administratively belongs to the region of Western Macedonia .
Bordered to the west by Albania , to the east by the prefecture of Pella , north to the FYROM, the southeast and southwest area of Kozani to Kastoria .
To the east of the county are the mountain ranges of Mount Vora ( Kaimaktsalan ) , the third highest peak in Greece - altitude 2524 m - and the road crossing the Kellis to Thessaloniki and Kozani . Of the total area of the county, the 534.500 acres
is cultivated and fallow land ( 27.26 % ) , 700,700 acres are pasture of which: 79.85 % are Community and 20.15% private.

Economic characteristics population
The population stands at 54,751 people , according to the census of 2001 , of which 50.9 % are male and 49.1 % female .
Of the total population at the county level , 18,880 people are economically active of which 88.05 % are employed . Percentage 11.95% are unemployed .
Feature is the fact that the highest percentage of unemployment ( 52.12 % ) affects young people. Of the total economically active population 41% are self-employed , employed 39 % while the remaining 20 % are part-time .
