THE ANCIENT CITY OF FLORINA

The Hellenistic city of Florina is located in the southern portion of the modern city of Florina , on the terraces of the northern slope of verdant hill of Agios Panteleimon , as called by the chapel located in the area . Just below , to the east , is the former Xenia hotel , where the period 1930 - 1934 was excavated by George Anthony Keramopoullos Bakalaki part of the same city , the remains of which disappeared in the 60s during the construction of Xenia . Excavations of IZEPKA began in the early 80s with financial support mainly the Ministry of Macedonia - Thrace , while maintenance and enhancement of the archaeological site were funded by the Second and Third Community Support Framework .

The excavated archaeological site , on successive terraces , occupies an area of ​​8 acres of certified engraving blocks .
